One of the things we love best about coming to work at Augusta Candle Company is the chance to be part of the city’s thriving arts and entertainment community. Our store’s location on Broad Street puts us in the heart of Artists’ Row, Augusta’s neighborhood that is packed with art galleries for as far as the eye can see.
There’s a lot more to Augusta than the Master’s golf tournament. If you’re thinking of visiting us here are some of the city’s attractions you definitely don’t want to miss, especially if you love the arts as much as we do.
Augusta Market
No visit to the city would be complete without a Saturday stroll along the Riverwalk to check out the handmade goods for sale by artists and craftspeople of all trades.
The Augusta Market is held every Saturday from 8 AM to 2PM and runs from mid-March to mid-November. You’ll find an array of jewelry, artwork, personal care products, food goods, and freshly picked produce along the route. The event is kid and pet friendly and is usually accompanied by live music for a good time for all.
Westobou Festival
There’s no shortage of festivals in Augusta throughout the year, but one of the biggest and most remains the multi-arts Westobou Festival. This five-day party takes over downtown Augusta in early October with performing artists from all genres including music, visual arts, dance, and more.
Entertainment will be performing at over 20 venues downtown, including Augusta Candle Company, and an option to buy online passes grants you access to all 50 performances taking place.
Take a Moonlight Music Cruise
If a relaxing boat ride down the Augusta Canal accompanied by the live sounds of folk, blues, jazz and more literally floats your boat, then you’ll love the Moonlight Music Cruise.
Organized by the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, these cruises take place every Friday evening from April through the end of October. The 90-minute ride is accompanied by a different artist or band every week. You’re allowed to bring your own snacks and beverages to enjoy while soaking up the scenery and the songs.
Other Things to do in Downtown Augusta
There are plenty of other attractions in our bustling downtown area. Here’s a list of just a few of them.
Immerse Yourself in History: Augusta has the distinction of being Georgia’s second oldest city after Savannah, so that means the local museums have no shortage of exhibits. Check out the Augusta Museum of History, the Gertrude Herbert Museum of Art, and the Morris Museum.
Feel Good on The James Brown Tour: Augusta was the Godfather of Soul’s hometown and a guided tour (The James Brown Family Historical Tour) will take you to his childhood home, schools, and other landmarks relevant to the musician.
Get to Noshing: Augusta’s restaurants and eateries showcase the best of southern cuisine plus ethnic dishes from around the world. Grab a Reuben sandwich at Hildebrandt’s, a hand-tossed pizza at the Mellow Mushroom, the “Elway” at Whiskey Bar Kitchen, locally grown ingredients at Frog Hollow Tavern or a mint julep at Abel Brown Southern Kitchen.
All of these activities are perfect to partake in before or after making your own custom scented product at our shop!
